Sea of Stories Raasay Map

An A3 drawing of Raasay sat amid a sea of notes, anecdotes and stories of our unique island.

This was drawn by first taking an outline of the island's coastline from an old forestry map. I then used satellite images to scroll over the landscape and fill in details of lochs, forests, hills and buildings. It's not perfectly accurate but it's close!

I wanted to create the feel of tidal currents around the island and so I decided to do it by writing as many notes and thoughts about Raasay as I could fit in. Stories of people, etymology of names, local folk tales and anecdotes from ancient and modern history. What is an island like Raasay if not for our collective stories and histories?
